Power factor correction equipment

A correctly sized APFC panel pays for itself out of the penalty column of your electricity bill. A badly sized one burns capacitors every monsoon. We supply the parts and the sizing logic behind them.

Entes automatic power factor controller front panel

Every part of the APFC panel

Supplied individually or as a matched kit against your kVAr and step schedule — controller, capacitors, duty contactors, reactors, fuses and monitoring relays.

Entes APFC controller

Automatic power factor controllers

Switch capacitor steps to hold target PF through the day, with harmonic display and alarms when a step has failed.

  • 6, 8, 12 and 14 step models
  • Intelligent step rotation for even wear
  • Alarm relay and RS-485 options

Cylindrical and box type power capacitors

Power capacitors

Cylindrical and box-type LV capacitors, with heavy-duty versions rated for the higher voltage a detuned bank sees.

  • 440 V, 525 V and 690 V ratings
  • Self-healing metallised film
  • Overpressure disconnect protection

Capacitor duty contactor with damping resistors

Capacitor duty contactors

Pre-charging damping resistors limit switching inrush — the single cheapest way to stop capacitors failing early.

  • Matched to kVAr step rating
  • Long electrical life for daily switching
  • Auxiliary contacts for status feedback

Detuned reactor for capacitor bank

Detuned reactors

7% and 14% reactors tune the bank away from the 5th harmonic so a plant full of VFDs does not resonate its own capacitors to death.

  • Copper wound, thermally protected
  • Matched to capacitor kVAr and voltage
  • Essential where harmonic THD is high

Thyristor switching module for real time power factor correction

Thyristor modules (RTPFC)

Cycle-speed switching for welding plants, presses and cranes where mechanical contactors cannot keep up with the load.

  • Transient-free zero-crossing switching
  • No contact wear, silent operation
  • Ideal for rapidly fluctuating loads

Entes power monitoring relay

Monitoring relays, timers & SMPS

Voltage, phase-sequence and load monitoring relays, panel timers and DIN-rail power supplies to finish the build.

  • Phase failure and asymmetry protection
  • Under / over voltage with adjustable delay
  • 24 V DC supplies for control circuits

The business case

Three lines on your bill decide the payback

Average power factor, maximum demand and the PF penalty or incentive. Send us a copy of a recent bill and the connected load, and we will come back with the kVAr, the step schedule and an honest payback estimate.

Fewer penalties, lower demand

Correcting PF releases kVA capacity, which often postpones a transformer upgrade as well as clearing the penalty.

Capacitors that last

Duty contactors and correctly chosen detuned reactors are the difference between a five-year bank and a yearly replacement bill.

Proof, before and after

Log the load with a power quality analyzer first, then again after commissioning, and the improvement is documented.

APFC FAQs

How much kVAr does my plant need?+

Start from maximum demand in kW and present average PF on your bill, then compute the reactive compensation needed for the target PF. We prefer to log the load for a few days first — kVAr sized off one bill tends to over-compensate at night and fall short at peak. The sizing guide works through an example.

When do I need detuned reactors?+

Whenever a meaningful share of load is non-linear: VFDs, rectifiers, UPS, welding sets, induction furnaces. Plain capacitors can resonate with harmonic currents and fail early. A 7% detuned reactor tunes the bank below the 5th harmonic and is now standard in most industrial panels.

Why capacitor duty contactors?+

Capacitor switching draws very high inrush current. Duty contactors carry pre-charging damping resistors that limit it, protecting both contacts and capacitor. Using ordinary contactors is the most common cause of premature capacitor failure we see.

Can you supply a complete kit?+

Yes — controller, capacitors, duty contactors, detuned reactors, fuses and monitoring relays as a matched set against your kVAr and step schedule, ready for your panel builder. We also supply metering for the same panel.
